How useful is parametric phase squeezing?

Abstract

We have investigated the time evolution of squeezing in the signal mode of the undamped nondegenerate parametric amplifier. In squeezed-light applications there are often competing strategies that obtain greater precision simply by increasing the coherent pumping. If the production of squeezed light requires large coherent power inputs, it may be simpler to use a strategy involving only an increased coherent power.
