Abstract
We investigate theoretically the fluorescence spectrum of a single trapped ion. This is of interest because the quantum motion of the trapped particle manifests itself in the fluorescence spectrum. In particular, sidebands appear in the spectrum because of the residual motion of the ion in the trap potential. This is shown in Fig. 1, where, in addition to the Mollow triplet, two narrow sidebands appear at the frequencies ±ν, where ν is the trap frequency.
