Blexcitons In GaAs/AlGaAs Quantum Wells—their Approach to Chemical Equilibrium and Transport

Abstract

There have been several reports over the years of biexcitonic species in GaAs/AlGaAs quantum wells, where the reduced dimensionality enhances the binding energy of excitonic molecules.1-3 The appearance of a photoluminescence peak 1 to 2 meV below the free exciton emission with increasing excitation density is credibly but not exclusively interpreted as a biexcitonic molecule. Despite these recurrent reports, the literature reflects a lack of consensus on the biexciton's binding energy, lineshape, and density dependence.
