Abstract
The interest in highly conjugated molecules, such as polyenes, for optimization of the second (β) and third (λ) polarizability at the microscopic scale has been pointed out by various theoretical and experimental investigations.1,2 However, for polyenes having a large number of carbon-carbon double bonds n (typically n > 6), the lack of experimental data results from the generally poor solubility (≈1 mg/ L) of such long conjugated molecules.3
