Stabilization of squeezing with a nonlinear fiber interferometer

Abstract

Optical squeezing using a nonlinear Mach-Zehnder (ring) interferometer proposed by Shirasaki and Haus1 has been experimentally demonstrated by Bergman and Haus.2 The scheme is distinguished by the fact that the optical pumping power can be reused (in principle in toto) as the local oscillator. The input pulse train is divided into two separate trains that counterpropagate in a nonlinear fiber ring. The pulses experience self-phase modulation and are recombined upon return to the input beam splitter. The output from the "vacuum port" is squeezed vacuum.
