Abstract

Numerous research efforts are under way pursuing solid-density (1023 parts/cm3), high-tempera tare (≥100 eV) plasmas utilizing short-pulse (≤1 ps) laser-heated solids. Diagnosing such plasmas could unambiguously determine the characteristics of high-energy- density matter in a controlled fashion and produce test-bed experiments for plasma physics, astrophysics, and inertial confinement fusion.
