Picosecond separation of electrical transients propagated on a bent coplanar waveguide

Abstract

The aim of this work is to present, we believe for the first time, bend-induced separation of odd and even modes in coplanar waveguides (CPWs). The tested CPWs are shown inset in Figs. 1-3 and consist of a photoconductive switch and two curved bends with opposite orientations. The structures were made of Au on semi-insulating GaAs substrates with linewidth and separation of 50 μm. Measurements were made with an EO sampling system described in Ref. 1. Electrical transients were launched onto the CPW by illuminating the photoconductive switch with a train of ~100-fs laser pulses. The waveforms were sampled inside and outside of the bend region on the two sides of the CPW center conductor using a LiTaO3 finger probe.
