Abstract
Holographic photonic band structures yield a smaller gap but are easier to fabricate than optical frequency versions of binary media, such as the fcc lattice. We describe the mode structure of volume holograms, consider the practicality of holographic band gaps, and describe experimental work using photo-polymer doped sol-gel glasses.
