Abstract

We have recently reported imaging and noise characteristics of stimulated Raman amplifiers with objects that were illuminated with coherent Stokes beams obtained from stimulated Raman generators.1 The utility of such imaging amplifiers could be greatly expanded for many applications, such as remote monitoring of specific atmospheric constituents, if the illumination source were thermal in nature rather than coherent.
