Abstract
Excitons are quasiparticles that describe the electronically excited states of a semiconductor. Because of their light effective mass, comparable to the tree-electron mass or less, excitons at high densities are expected to display pronounced quantum-statistical behavior, including the occurrence of a Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC).
