Abstract
Through advances in semiconductor miniaturization technology, micro-relief patterns with characteristic dimensions as small as the wavelength of light can now be mass produced. In a classic example of technology transfer, this capability is allowing optics designers—for the first time ever—to create innovative optical components that promise to solve key problems in optical sensors, communication channels, and optical processors.
