Abstract

Optical control of microwave and millimeter wave devices is attractive because of applications that involve the synergism of optical and microwave technologies. Various control functions have already been demonstrated, and the use of optically controlled devices in distributed communications and radar systems is currently under intensive investigation.1-2 In this paper, we report the generation of both cw and pulsed millimeter wave radiation using FETs and HEMTs integrated with printed circuit antennas and illuminated with visible laser radiation.
