Abstract

In an absorptive nonlinear optical medium the instantaneous nonlinear optical response is often accompanied by a slow thermal contribution driven by the absorption of the laser energy by the medium.1 We have studied the thermally induced damped oscillatory time response of an amorphous layer of polymeric distributed piperidinovinyl polyquinoxaline (~1 µm thick).2 We used a standard degenerate four-wave mixing scheme with a laser pulse of FWHM = 23 ± 2 ps at 532 nm.
