Abstract
We consider the localization of matter waves in an optical lattice due to nonlinear interactions. We show that even below classical thresholds, localization is still possible due to quantum fluctuations or 'entanglement' between constituent bosons. Furthermore, we point out that interesting Fano resonances in the scattering of single atoms on such localized states may occur due to coherent interactions with the matter-wave field.
