Abstract
A novel design of low propagation loss single mode rib structured asymmetrical Y- branch optical power splitter on silicon-on-insulator platform is proposed. The simulated results exhibit the optical propagation loss values with different refractive index difference, branching angle, slab height of the asymmetrical optical power splitter using beam propagation method with the help of the R-Soft CAD tool. We have studied propagation loss for different optical waveguide parameters with different propagation modes such as TE and TM modes to minimize the propagation loss. We have also observed effective indexes and transmitted power for various waveguide parameters with polarization of TE and TM modes. The simulation results were explored and optimized that propagation loss 0.13dB in TE mode 0.07dB in TM mode at 0.65degrees branching angle, 0.007dB in TE mode 0.02dB in TM mode at 4.5μm slab height, 0.157dB in TE mode 0.036dB in TM mode at 2.166 index difference with 1550nm wavelength rest of the waveguide parameters are kept as constant. The effective index of the asymmetrical power splitter is influence in the midst of TE mode polarization but constant with TM mode polarization. This device has many advantages such as low loss, simple nature, easy fabrication and used in bio, optical sensors.
