Dye emission in an opal hetero-structure mediated by plasmonic absorption and defect mode localization

Abstract

Emission features are studied in a dye-doped photonic crystal hetero-structure with a passive planar defect embedded with gold nanoparticles. The role of the defect mode, distributed feedback and the localized surface plasmon resonance is analyzed.
