Closed-Loop Multiphoton Transitions and Its Consequences

Abstract

Conventional understanding of weak coherent light-atom interaction relies on basic processes involving ground state coherence and optical pumping. We identify closed-loop multiphoton transitions that play a central role in inducing anisotropy.
