Abstract

The demand for bandwidth from increasing numbers of internet users and devices, which are expected to exceed 20B within five years, poses a significant challenge for future optical networks. Current 100G systems will have to be replaced by 1T and higher data rate systems, and network architecture will need to be optimized for both high capacity transmission and the massive data storage requirements of data centers, while remaining cost-effective. This presentation will provide an overview of highly integrated optical components and subsystems to address the challenge of the upcoming capacity crunch in optical networks.
