Prospective for Nanoplasmonic Active Devices: Critical Assessment

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

The discussion will focus on compensating loss in Nanoplasmonic waveguides and assessed feasibility of developing subwavelength sources of coherent radiation (spasers). Large metal loss combined with reduction of spontaneous lifetime (Purcell effect) make these tasks exceedingly difficult.
