Optical jitter due to refractive index variations in slow-light photonic crystal MZI switches

Abstract

High effective index waveguides can reduce the size of integrated active MZIs significantly. We demonstrate numerically that they have high sensitivity to variations in material refractive index leading to significant pulse distortion due to jitter.
