Simulation and Optimization of fluorescent dyes and 3D microtextures for Luminescent Solar Concentrators

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Luminescent Solar Concentrators have been used by the SISER (Scottish Institute of Energy Research, Department of the Heriot Watt University of Edinburgh) in the search for Building-integrated photovoltaics with good aesthetic potential1. OPTIS has developed a simulation software taking into account the measurements on the fluorescent dyes which help to optimize them by simulation for the color appearance, the efficiency of the dyes as the shape of the light guide doted with dyes applying 3D virtual textures to reduce reflection coefficients on the interfaces between the different materials. Simulation results show good matching to the reality which makes the OptisWorks Solar Package an ideal tool to conceive advanced materials and textures to improve the efficiency of solar systems.
