Device Design of Silicon 2×2 Mach-Zehnder-Type Optical Switch For Polarization-Independent Operation

Abstract

We proposed a silicon 2×2 polarization-independent Mach-Zender-type optical switch. The device structures were designed, and fundamental experiments showed their polarization-independent effects for an MMI (multi-mode interference) 3dB coupler and a phase shift waveguide.
