Computer-generated-holograms are particularly of interest since they enable complex optical functions. Imaging the pattern of an absorption synthetic hologram in photopolymerizable layers was a simple way to produce permanent phase elements with high diffraction efficiencies and signal-to-noise ratios. Information was stored as a spatial modulation of the refractive index. Binary holograms with pixels from 5x5 to 50x50?m2 were recorded. A method was developed to provide a precise measurement of the diffraction efficiency and signal-to-noise ratio of the studied holograms. Optimization of the amplitude/phase conversion procedure was so possible.
