Abstract

We investigated the photorefractive two-wave coupling properties in highly zinc doped lithium niobate crystals under the wavelengths of 488nm and 351nm. Larger two-wave coupling gain was found in UV than in visible. The results demonstrated diffusion mechanism in photorefractive effect plays dominant role in highly zinc doped lithium niobate, comparing to the congruent pure crystals. We also did some discussion and explanation based on the defect structure of zinc doped lithium niobate. Our experiment shows that zinc doped lithium niobate is a promising candidate for UV photorefractive applications.
