Production of kW-Power Pulses Tunable in the 0.5-3 THz Range for Amplification in a High-gain FEL

Abstract

2 kW, 200 ns pulses were generated in a noncollinear phase-matched GaAs crystal pumped by line-tunable CO2 lasers. This pulse in the range 0.5-3.0 THz can be amplified to 5-100 MW in a single-pass FEL.
