Abstract

We investigate the interplay of the carrier dynamics and screening, and determine the optical spot shape needed to optimize the emitted THz transients based on a simulation from a detailed Monte Carlo-Poisson solver. The results of the simulations demonstrate that given the same photocarrier density, a line focus parallel to the direction of the bias field suppresses saturation at high optical fluence due to space-charge screening and enhances the terahertz power.
