Optical Binding and Synchronisation in Arrays of Non-Spherical Particles

Abstract

The optical binding forces between non-spherical particles in counter-propagating beams are simulated. Particle shape influences both separation and orientation while chirality leads to optically-induced synchronisation. The observed dynamics suggest applications in bio-inspired micromachines.
