Vortex nearfield with orbital angular momentum enables the chiral mass-transport in nano-scale

Abstract

We discover that vortex near-field with orbital angular momentum, generated around a chiral surface relief formed by optical vortex illumination, can induce chiral mass-transport of azo-polymer in a sub-wavelength scale, so as to establish a chiral structure with a diameter of ~300 nm and a height of ~150nm. Such chiral mass-transport is originated by spin-orbital coupling effects between the chiral surface relief and a circularly polarized light.
