Abstract

BT is currently introducing WDM point-to-point links. First, the current state of this pilot is reviewed. Secondly, views on the future evolution of WDM are presented. The implications of the differences between unprotected and optically protected point-to-point WDM systems are presented. Technology options beyond point-to-point WDM, in the form of OADM rings, are then discussed.
