An Evaluation and a Comparison of 3D-OSEM with Resolution Recovery (HOSEM) Versus Flash 3D

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

The main thrust of this study is to compare the performance of two common and relatively recent SPECT image reconstruction algorithms: HOSEM and Flash 3Din 99TcmSPECT images for different noise levels. The SPECT images of a Jaszczak phantom filled with uniform 99Tcmsolution, and capillary line sources with 99Tcm were acquired using a Siemens e-Cam Dual Head Gamma Camera. Three noise levels were achieved by acquiring the SPECT images of the Jaszczak phantom for 30, 20 and 10 seconds per projection angle. As expected, the distance-dependent resolution compensation improves the overall spatial resolution. In terms of noise, Flash 3D models noise properties more accurately than HOSEM. No significant difference in contrast between Flash 3D and HOSEM has been observed.
