• LED lighting. LED lighting is now well into a phase of rapid adoption into the general lighting market. End-product prices have declined more rapidly than projected, putting pressure on profit margins for suppliers. The declines are the result of innovation, overinvestment in manufacturing capacity, and government regulations banning sales of inefficient light sources. Sales of LED manufacturing equipment surged a few years ago, but now are at a more sustainable level.
• 3D imaging and gesture recognition. OSA selected JDSU as the winner of the 2014 Enabled by Optics award for JDSU's contribution to 3D imaging and gesture recognition. This section is a presentation from the OIDA Annual Forum that offers a view of the future of this technology.
