Structural color mechanism in Papilio blumei butterfly

Abstract

2D photonic-crystal structures of Papilio blumei butterfly are constructed and the corresponding reflection spectra are simulated by finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. The layer thickness and ratio of chitin/air affect the reflection peak.
