Abstract

An optical directional coupler is one of the most important devices for an optical fiber communication system, such as CATV and data-link, and for optical fiber measurement. Various reports on optical directional couplers have been presented. This paper reports on the designing details of an optical directional coupler for extensive use. The coupler is compact and easy to handle, since it is connected with other devices with connectors. This paper also reports evaluation tests results.
