Abstract

We describe a precision transfer molded single fiber optic connector. The plugs are molded directly onto the 110μm O.D. optical fibers and possess conical alignment surfaces. A molded biconical sleeve aligns two plugs with a total offset error of less than 3μm. The average transmission loss is 0.4 ± 0.1 dB with index match.
