Abstract

Electrical measurements of pulse dispersion are normally made by injecting narrow impulses of light into a fiber and measuring the temporal pulse spread at the output.1 The length dependence of pulse spreading was formerly determined by comparing pulse width outputs from a successively shortened fiber.2 This paper describes a new and convenient shuttle pulse technique for determining pulse width versus length without breaking the fiber.
