Shape Adaptive Grinding (SAG): A Novel Fabrication Method for Freeform Optical Molds

Abstract

A novel fabrication method for freeform optical molds is proposed: Shape Adaptive Grinding combines an elastic tool with rigid diamond bearing pellets. This process delivers roughness below 1nm Ra on molding steels and CVD carbides.
