Abstract

MRF has shown to be an excellent complimentary tool to conventional optical fabrication processes that are unable to achieve desired surface figure characteristics due to material type, part shape or surface figure difficulty. This paper will examine some of the shortcomings of conventional fabrication processes for polishing Calcium Fluoride crystals, prisms, and windows to name a few. MRF results will be presented showing clear improvements to surface figure without compromises to other surface characteristics.
