Abstract

A novel optical-fiber magnetic field sensor based on Surface Plasma resonance is proposed and demonstrated for the first time. This sensor utilizes the magnetic-optical effects of magnetic fluid and the high refractive index sensitivity of optical-fiber Surface Plasma resonance sensor, greatly enhancing the sensing sensitivity. Its optimal structure parameters are obtained by optimizing the thickness of silver film and the length of the optical fiber. A preliminary experimental verification is carried out and the sensitivity reaches 304pm/Gs. Compared with the counterparts, the proposed sensor has many advantages, such as simple structure, small in size, easy to make, low cost, high sensitivity and anti-interference.
