Abstract

We fabricated and experimentally characterized a depressed elliptical hollow optical fiber using a new deposition technique over a flat face silica substrate tube. Due to high ellipticity in the hollow ring core, the fiber provides an extremely high group birefringence of 1.38 × 10−3 at 1550 nm and single polarization guidance with a bandwidth of ~45 nm.
