A novel fibre optic sensor for the simultaneous acoustic emission and strain monitoring

Abstract

The feasibility of the simultaneous acoustic emission (AE) and strain detection was demonstrated. The signal response to AE was assessed by using the AC signal from the sensor and the DC signal from the sensor was related to the applied strain. The result s from the fibre optic sensor were compared with that obtained from an electrical strain gauge and a piezoelectric AE sensor.
