ULTRASONIC SENSORS FROM SURFACE-BONDED OR EMBEDDED OPTICAL FIBRES

Abstract

The effectiveness of surface-bonded and embedded optical fibres as ultrasonic receivers in GFRP and CFRP plates is compared. The embedded fibre has 20 times the sensitivity of the surface-bonded but disadvantages may outweigh the gain.
