Fiber Optic Evanescent Field Sensor for Hydrocarbon Monitoring in Air and Water applying UV Absorption

Abstract

A fiber optic sensor for the monitoring of organic pollutants in air and water is presented. The UV absorption spectra of hydrocarbons soluble in special polymer fiber claddings are used for the measurement of concentration via the evanescent field of silica fibers.
