Abstract
We investigate a polarization dependence of acousto-optic devices based on a nearly-circular-core two-mode fiber. Theoretical mode analysis, taking into account the thermal-stress field in the fiber as well as the core ellipticity shows a good agreement with the experimental results. We demonstrate that the polarization dependence can be reduced by annealing the residual stress.
