Abstract
Compared to phase nulling gyros and ring laser gyroscopes, one of the most attractive features of the fiber optic gyroscope is that its sensitivity increases with increasing fiber length. Decreasing fiber costs in the future will allow longer fiber lengths to be used in optical gyroscopes. However, to fulfill these promising possibilities, there are several areas in which the performance of current gyros must be improved.
