Abstract

This paper presents an integrated waveguide-type acoustooptic frequency modulator coupled with single-mode fibers (SMFs) to make a fiber-optic gyroscope (FOG) using the frequency modulation method.1 For the integrated modulator to have low insertion loss, the coupling loss between the SMF and waveguide (WG) should be reduced. Furthermore, it is necessary to attain high diffraction efficiency by a large acoustooptic interaction.
