Performance Estimation of Discrete Raman Amplification within Broadband Optical Networks

Abstract

The nonlinear impact of discrete Raman amplifiers on transmission in wideband systems is analyzed theoretically and tested experimentally. At double EDFA bandwidth, predicted reach of >3400km, indicates a distance penalty of ~30% versus EDFA systems.
