Fragmentation-Minimized Transponder Upgrading Employing Channel Bandwidth Aligned Slot Allocation in Flexible Grid Optical Networks

Abstract

Efficient implementation strategy of new generation channel-speeds is presented where frequency fragmentation is minimized. Substantial improvement in frequency utilization or reduction in fiber number (~15%) is verified for various network conditions and different channel-bandwidth allocations.
