All-fiber optical interconnection for dissimilar multicore fibers with low insertion loss

Abstract

We present a novel approach for providing low-loss optical interconnection between multicore fibers having dissimilar core pitch. Using simple image formation by a graded index fiber lens a significant core pitch difference (36µm and 29µm) is compensated with low coupling loss (~1.5dB).
