Evaluation of Elastic Modulation Gains in Microsoft’s Optical Backbone in North America

Abstract

We study Q-factor and its variation in Microsoft’s backbone network carrying live traffic. We find that a capacity gain of at least 70% is achievable via elastic modulation.
