Abstract

We experimentally evaluate the bit-error-rate (BER) performance of the 8-state Trellis-coded 4D-QPSK format that we proposed previously. At BER=10−3, 4-dB receiver- sensitivity improvement against DP-QPSK is obtained with a simple encoder structure.
